International Literary Prize "Canne al Vento"

The Municipality of Galtellì promotes the International Literary Prize “Canne al Vento”, dedicated to the figure of Grazia Deledda and her most renowned novel, Canne al ventowhich the Nobel laureate chose to set precisely in Galtellì. The Prize was created with the aim of enhancing the cultural legacy of the Nuoro-born writer and fostering dialogue between literature, identity, and territory.
This initiative represents a significant cultural opportunity for the whole of Sardinia: it is the first Sardinian literary prize with an international scope, featuring sections for short stories in Italian, English (Section A) and Sardinian (Section B). This multilingual approach reflects the Prize’s mission to promote expressive diversity and to encourage intercultural exchange.
THEMES AND INSPIRATION
The competition rules require that participating stories be inspired by the central themes of Grazia Deledda’s literary work, particularly those explored in Canne al vento:
The Religiosity as an inner and universal dimension;
A sense of belonging and cultural identity;
The depiction of Sardinia’s landscape and human environment during Deledda’s time;
The analysis of social dynamics and family relationships, with special attention to class structure and roles.
Through these themes, the Prize seeks to inspire deep and contemporary reflections that connect memory with modern relevance.
ORGANIZATION
The current edition of the Prize and its related events is organized by “Il Club di Jane Austen Sardegna”, a cultural association that has been active since 2017 in promoting reading across the region. The association is responsible for developing the program and enhancing Deledda’s literary heritage through accessible and engaging initiatives.
